With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Server stop responding during backup of information store (NT backup)

NB!! Have posted this question before and accepted a solution, but was a mistake and problem continue..
 
Have a customer with a HP ML 350 G5 , with Hp Ultrum 400\800 Gb streamer.
Win 2003 sbs std with Exchange.
Have SP 2 for windows and Exchange.
Increased maximum database size for priv.edb to 50 Gb (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912375/)
Current size 11 gb
Using NT backup configured throug Server managemet.

Some days (night's) at the same time the server just hangs completly.
Out of last 30 days, it have frozen 3 times.
On diffrent weekdays, but same time.
After going throug succesfully completed jobs, fund out that it start to backup information store a min or two before "freezing time".
Server than hangs (no reaction to keyboard) until hard reset.
After restart, error msg in system log: event id 6008 "The previous system shutdown at 00:34:52 on 26.07.2008 was unexpected"
So: error says shutdown at 00.34 and this is 2 min after backup of Information store starts.
Suggested solution was to move job a few hours up.
Moved it to 20.00 (from 23.00) and succesfull jobs finishes at aprx 22.30
Now server crashed again,at 21.37- 1hour and 37 min after backup job starts and 2 min after backup of information store. Same as before..
So it's pretty clear that it have something to do with the backup of system store??

Any ideas?
